How to Choose Sparring Gloves

What Weight Should You Choose?

16oz sparring gloves are commonly required for adult sparring in UK boxing gyms, while some boxers may need 18oz depending on their size and gym rules.

Lighter weights may be permitted in certain circumstances. Always check with your coach before buying.

Lace-Up or Velcro Sparring Gloves?

Lace-up gloves offer an adjustable fit around the wrist but usually require help to put on.

Velcro sparring gloves are quicker and easier to secure independently, making them a practical choice for everyday training.

Sparring Gloves vs Bag Gloves

Sparring gloves are designed for partner work and typically use more forgiving knuckle padding.

Bag gloves are made for heavy bags and pads, and may have firmer padding. Always check the manufacturer's intended use before using any gloves for sparring.
